Buttermilk Dressing

Summer calls for fresh and delicious salads with ripe produce! Nothing goes better with a great salad than a creamy dressing, like our Buttermilk Dressing!

Made with herbs, buttermilk, and mayo this dressing is high calorie and can be used as a dip or salad dressing.

Are Salad Dressings Healthy?

Salad dressings are one of the best parts of eating a salad! Without them, we would just be eating a lot of very dry vegetables! A big question is always, are salad dressings healthy?

Having a salad topped with dressing, creamy or not, is a great way to eat your vegetables and get in a lot of fiber and other nutrients! Some dressings are higher calorie than others which makes many people stay away from them. However, enjoying your food is just another way of having a healthy and balanced diet!

Over here at High Calorie Recipes, we love anything that can help us add more calories to our daily intake, which is why we have our Buttermilk Dressing recipe! Adding this dressing to your salad can help increase your nutrient intake while still keeping it high in calories.

Why High Calorie?

High calorie recipes are important for many people including; those suffering from unintended weight loss, certain illnesses, difficulty chewing/swallowing, low or no appetite, aging, or cannot gain or maintain weight.

Eating high calorie foods can help to increase your daily calorie intake without having to eat large amounts of food. Eating low calorie foods are very popular, but many people suffer with trying to gain weight and may not be able to eat enough food to reach their calorie goals.

Our recipes focus on what we can add to our diet and foods that help to increase our calorie intake so you can eat less meals a day and increase your caloric intake!

How to Add Extra Nutrition to your Salad

We all know that the base of a good salad includes vegetables like different types of greens! But how can we make our salads more diverse in micronutrients? Try using more than one type of lettuce like mixing arugula and butter lettuce or romaine and kale!

Another great option, and a way to add extra fiber, is by adding grains to your salad base. Try adding barley or farro, or even whole wheat noodles! To add in extra micronutrients, top off your salad with microgreens or bean sprouts.

Most grocery stores today carry different types of microgreens like broccoli or radish microgreens or you can check out your local farmers market for even more variety! These tiny little plants pack tons of nutrients and can be sprinkled on everything from your salad to your morning eggs.

To add more calories to your salad try adding different types of cheeses! An option that would pair well with our Buttermilk dressing is blue cheese. Blue cheese adds more calories and extra calcium to your salad.

Nuts and seeds are also a yummy addition to your salad and add important omega 3’s to your diet, along with extra calories because they are high in healthy fats. Sunflower seeds or walnuts are some options to try on your next salad!

What to Eat with Buttermilk Dressing

Buttermilk dressing is obviously a great option to go with any salad, and would pair well with a cobb salad.

Veggies are also a fantastic pairing with Buttermilk dressing. It is hard enough to get in our daily servings of vegetables, but dipping them into this delicious dressing makes it even more enjoyable!

Some options for dipping are carrots, celery, bell peppers, and tomatoes. This dressing can also get drizzled on top of chicken or pizza. Try it drizzled on top of a chicken bacon ranch pizza for extra herby flavor!
