High Calorie Drinks for Summer

High Calorie Drinks are a great way to stay hydrated this summer and add in extra calories to your day, especially if you are trying to gain or maintain weight!

Here is a roundup of some great high calorie drinks you can enjoy throughout this hot summer.

Benefit of High Calorie Drinks in the Summer

High Calorie Drinks can be a great option during the hot summer months to get in extra calories. The heat can decrease your appetite, and most people are extra busy during the summer and drinks are great on the go!

By adding in a High Calorie Drink to your day you can stick with your weight gain or maintenance goals and stay hydrated.

Staying Hydrated

Most healthy adults only consume about half of the recommended water amount per day. Water is an important component for our bodies and bodily functions, and without it, we can become severely dehydrated and may even lead to death.

The good news is, water isn’t only in plain water! Our overall diet contributes to our daily water intake and adding in some of these High Calorie Drinks can aid in consuming enough water to stay hydrated.

The recommended daily amount of water is about 125 ounces for men and 91 ounces for women. However, water intake can vary depending on the amount of physical activity you do, how long you are outside in the heat, the changing seasons, if you have specific diseases, and many other factors.

Staying hydrated is especially important for athletes and those you exercise regularly or intensely because we lose a large amount of our body weight from sweat loss. Dehydration can also contribute to cognitive malfunctioning and affect your digestion.

Water is important for our gastrointestinal system because it aids in our digestion and decreases our chance of constipation.

Water is also important for:

  • Kidney Function
  • Headaches
  • Our Skin
  • Certain Chronic Diseases

Staying hydrated is essential for older adults because as we age it is even more important to ensure our organs and bodies are functioning well. To learn more about dehydration in older adults check out this article!

Other Ways to Stay Hydrated

Drinking water or other liquids aren’t the only ways to stay hydrated! Many fruits and vegetables have a high water content and contribute to our daily water intake.

Some high water content fruits and vegetables include: watermelon, strawberries, apples, grapes, lettuce, spinach, celery, broccoli and squash.

Eating yogurt or soup, or having a sports drink on a hot day can also contribute to daily water intake.

Another great way is having a smoothie as a snack during the day. Try our Tropical Coconut Milk Smoothie for a refreshing and hydrating summer snack!
